Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park
A Milestone towards a cleaner and prosperous Pakistan!
The Government of the Punjab in 2014 entered into agreements with Zonergy for the development of a 9×100 MW solar power energy project in Bahawalpur Punjab. Subsequently, Zonergy was issued a Letter of Intent (LOI) for the development of 9×100 MW solar power. It was later agreed between the Punjab Government and Zonergy that National Electric Power Regulatory (NEPRA) issued upfront Solar Tariff only up to 100 MW. Therefore for the development of 9×100 MW Zonergy will have to carry out through nine (9) separate subsidiaries, each to establish 100 MW. That out of the (9) nine subsidiaries, (3) three companies were awarded the upfront Solar Tariff by the NEPRA announced on 22.01.2015. Those companies went to achieve Financial Close.
It is important to highlight here that with the kind support of Pakistan Government, our the first phase of 3×100 MW out of total 9×100 MW working under CPEC project had successfully achieved the Commercial Operations Date (COD) in May 2016 and with your kind support it became the first project among the CPEC, who achieved the Financial Close, COD, got Tariff & other regulatory approvals etc.
We are proud of being the first Chinese enterprise, who achieved the completion in the CPEC energy projects , as per the clear vision of our worthy President of People’s Republic of China his visit to Pakistan for CPEC Projects on April 20th, 2015 and His Excellency the President Mr. Xi Jinping inaugurated our project and witnessed the groundbreaking ceremony. As till date our first phase of 3×100 MW out of 9×100 MW is successfully feeding the national grid of Pakistan via clean renewable energy. As per our calculation till date our first 3×100 MW solar power plant has generated more than 2 billion units and fulfilled the energy needs of more than 200,000 households in Pakistan.
The total size of the project is 9×100 MW, which is divided into three phases. The first phase of 3×100 MW is already completed and connected to the national grid of Pakistan via excellent engineering and construction quality works, this project won Luban award, the highest award in the construction works in China. The total investment for the first phase of 3×100 MW was around 3.125 billion Yuan.
The Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park is a photovoltaic solar power station in Bahawalpur, Punjab, Pakistan, named in honor of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan. Each 100 MW solar powered plant is spanning on 500 acres (200 ha) and hosting 392,158 solar modules.
Zonergy 9 ×100 MW solar power project is located at Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park in Bahawalpur in Punjab, with 4500 acres of land. Zonergy, as the project sponsor, executes the project by IPP model and the investment of Phase I is USD 460 million. This project is listed as CPEC “Early Harvest” project. It was agreed that the project will be implemented in 3 phases and each phase is consisted of 300 MW.
Corporate Social Responsibility
During the construction phase, this project created more than 3000 Jobs for Pakistani Nationals. After achieving the successful COD, the daily operations and maintenance works carried out by the Pakistani Nationals/ employees. Moreover, through this 3×100 MW Solar Power Project Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park, Bahawalpur, Punjab. Zonergy trained more than 100 Engineers and provided internship opportunities to 50 Students of the University of Engineering & Technology & Islamia University Bahawalpur about the Photovoltaic Technology.
It is pertinent to mention here that Zonergy is establishing a drinking water purification plant in Bahawalpur and provide solar energy storage solution for the Victoria Hospital Bahawalpur to supply the solar power energy, so that the critical medical equipment can be operated uninterruptedly. As per our calculation till date this300MW solar power plant has generated 2 billion units electricity and fulfill the energy needs of more than 200,000 households.
The aim of the project is to develop the largest solar park in the world allowing Pakistan to achieve the highest solar power potential by the year 2025.
